( May Day )
South African Vulnerable Workers Union .
SAVWU notes that today is another day dedicated to the workers of the world . We note this day and observe it with an attitude encapsulated within our motto "" Against Exploitation , Injustice And Exclusion ""
We mark this day as the day upon which all employees should be unionised , organized and mobilized in order that we can destroy exploitation , injustice and exclusion of the workers from enjoying all labour rights and benefits .
Government has last year abandoned and withdrew from a signed agreement that was standing long ago and we are told it was because of covid19 .
Workers are still struggling to receive all their dues even if the relevant legislation are there for employers to see .Basic Conditions Of Employment is still a nightmare to many employers .
National Minimum Wage is still an impossible achievement from many employers and workers are at the receiving ends . Employment Equity within some establishment is still a backward idea . White male employees are still given privileges ahead of everyone and this is despite Equity Act in place .
There are basic things workers still struggle from even on the 01 May 2022 . Workers still struggle to receive payslips , they still get late payment and in some instances incomplete salaries without any justification and reason . SAVWU stands against these kind of exploitation , injustice and exclusion .
The Department Of Labour And Employment has now capitulated to being Department Of Slavery And Unemployment . It has become department of Off-line and very long lines of people who want to be serviced but there is no service at all .
SAVWU has in recent time experienced a serious disregard of workers constitutional rights to belong to a trade union . Some employers still suppress this right from many of their employees and SAVWU is prepared to sacrifice everything to defend this right .
As we observe this day , we must take note that there are still workers who earn below National Minimum Wage . There are still workers who do not receive a payslip , there are still workers who are not registered with the department and this mean that these workers can not benefit Unemployment Insurance as governed by the law . This workers can not benefit from Provident Fundas regulated by law .
Workers are still exploited and treated unjustly and excluded from enjoying rights of the workers , even those rights in the constitution some workers in this day and age are not granted to them . SAVWU is prepared to be the defender of this rights .
We mark this day in knowledge that there are employers who still do not comply with labour laws and thus making workers vulnerable and exploited .
As we mark this day , we still are faced with some trade unions which work with employers against employees . Workers are at the mercy of their own despite joining other trade unions . SAVWU has deliberately entered this space with full knowledge that we will be facing trade unions of hyenas which all they want is the blood of the workers .
Therefore ; As we observe this day , SAVWU is in solidarity with all the workers of the world who can not enjoy this day due to political and economic crisis engulfing the space in which they are .
As we grapple with challenges of capitalism and austerity measures adopted by our government , we do so in full awareness that , SA is short of a workers oriented government ,government which will be Government Of The Workers By The Workers And For The Workers . And by so doing we will be able to stand Against Exploitation , Injustice And Exclusion .
SAVWU is a progressive trade union inspired by the need for economic freedom of the workers .
